About

The Center for Materials Innovation (CMI) – located at the Energy Sciences Center I (Building 520) at Yale’s West Campus – is a multidisciplinary research center that aims to encourage collaboration between Yale University faculty members and partner institutions to invent, manufacture, and utilize innovative materials to address society’s most pressing issues, from sustainability and the energy-water nexus, to energy efficiency, and beyond.

CMI will strive to facilitate materials innovations through close collaborations among faculty members within the campus, to promote collaborations and interactions with national labs and federal agencies, and to accelerate the development and industrial implementation of materials technologies innovated at Yale. The center also highly emphasizes collaborative efforts toward major funding opportunities to address future outstanding challenges identified by major agencies and industries.
